I’ve had a rough yet extraordinary three weeks. My beloved mother died followed three weeks later by the death of my father. I am filled with gratitude for the gifts my parents modeled for me, chief among them, love, compassion, and hospitality.
This prayer from The Rabbi’s Manual was read at my Dad’s gravesite by the presiding Catholic priest. It was read again at the unveiling of my mother’s tombstone. I love these ecumenical words of wisdom and comfort.
In the rising of the sun and its going down,
we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
we remember them.
When we are lost and sick at heart,
we remember them.
When we have joys we yearn to share,
we remember them.
So long as we live, they too shall live,
for they are now a part of us, as
we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter,
we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring,
we remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,
we remember them.
In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of autumn,
we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
we remember them.

I have been well-loved by these two…

Jutta, you are an angel. Thank you for reaching out and always providing me with a positive comment. It means a lot. xoJudy
Thank you for that! I have been missing my father tonight. Tom and I both dreamed about him last night.
Kathy, we can continue to hug when we see each other in exercise class knowing we are on similar journeys. Much love, Judy
Judy, each parent was blessed to have you there so they didn’t cross alone but had their darling daughter there to help them cross over and be a source of strength for your children, husband, brothers, step-parents and others. They passed their mantles to you and you have served them well. We mourn with you and we lift you up as a true symbol of of strength and love and role model supreme. Go with God and know He will cover you with His mantle of strength and healing.
Dear Dolores, Thank you for those uplifting comments. I am cutting and pasting your comment so I can carry it with me. Please know that you are loved and admired by me. Judy

Judy, I can hardly grasp the magnitude of losing both parents in such a short space of time. I am so sorry. Thank you for sharing such endearing memories of each of them. They live on in the hearts of your family. xo, Linda
Linda, you are dear to write. Yes, I would never have imagined they would die so close together. I’m glad we don’t know about such things beforehand. The little metal hen you gave me sits on my window sill which makes me think of you often. xoJudy
I’m so sorry, Judy. What beautiful words you have shared about your parents. I pray that you feel peace and comfort in the days and months to come. Love and hugs to you and the boys. Love, Aimee

You are kind and good to share.
Thank you Judy, that was beautiful.
Judy, You are in my thoughts & prayers at the loss of your parents. I know this pain as I lost my parents a # of years ago & then my husband more recently. I am familiar with “We Will Remember Them” as a friend shared it with me when my husband passed. I did not know it was from a Rabbi’s Journal. Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to your parents. I sure miss the neighborhood.
Thanks, Gloria. I am sorry for your losses, too. I’m sorry your old house has been torn down and that you can’t go back to it. We miss you, too. Thanks, again for writing.
I hated that they decided to tear down my beautiful TN Limestone home but such is life. I am glad they are finally starting to build as many have been asking me. They are a lovely couple & will be a great addition to the neighborhood. I’m not far away so go by frequently but sure miss my home. A big change after living there for 34 years.
